Who We Are

Who We Are
Our History
New Haven Youth Tennis & Education (New HYTEs) was founded in 2003 by Yale Varsity Tennis Coach Alex Dorato and several of his players, along with the support of the Connecticut Open Tennis Tournament and New Haven Parks and Recreation.
What began as a small summer program on New Haven’s public tennis courts expanded rapidly in 2008, thanks to a grant from the Tennis Foundation of Connecticut, which allow New HYTEs to serve students year round with tennis, academic support and life skills mentorship.
Since its inception and to this day, New HYTEs enjoys a deep relationship with the Yale community – its students and faculty volunteers, as well as being the beneficiaries of Yale’s state of the art facilities.
Today New HYTEs is serving over 100 economically disadvantaged students annually across Greater New Haven communities. We have ambitious growth plans for the future as we look to build a permanent Student Enrichment and Tennis / Fitness Headquarters for the next generation of students.
New HYTEs also benefits greatly from the sustained financial and resources support of the USTA Foundation which has been a critical catalyst in the growth of our organization since our inception.
